Guest Post: Always Youthful with Microdermabrasion

What a fun opportunity this is for me to guest blog for Me and Bella! It’s a great site for learning the how-to’s and wherefore’s of the cosmetic market. If I am going to spend a boatload of money on top-of-the-line makeup, I want to know how it works from someone other than a marketer. So, thanks, Me and Bella! You provide a great service.

I am an editor. Staring at a computer all day reviewing and editing the (sometimes painfully substandard) copy of other people writing on subjects assigned but not necessarily interesting to them tends to become monotonous. However, this subject hits home with me, particularly since I am ‘a woman of a certain age’ and starting to really care about the toll time is taking on my face. (I used to care less and swore I never would, but then, I didn’t have the odd gray hair popping out on my head or those ‘tiny fine lines’ you hear so much about from the multi-billion dollar industry which is cosmetics).

When it comes to being fashionable, we concentrate on our shoes (always the shoes first ladies…Carrie would be so proud!), clothes and of course accessories. Accessorizing has always been important, but with the great chunky jewelry, mega-handbags and beautiful new print scarves, accessorizing has been taken to a whole new level. But how often do we think of our face as a fashion accessory? (Never would have been the answer for me five years ago). I’m not talking about Lady Gaga horns, or nose rings, but rather, our faces being soft, smooth and radiant as a complement to what we’re wearing. If we’re really serious about being a head-to-toe fashionista, then adding microdermabrasion treatment to our beauty regimen is the ultimate fashion accessory.

Think of yourself as an artist, your body your canvass. The smoother and richer the canvass is, the more firm and tight the weave, the more absorbent, the better pre-treated with substances which bond with the oils used, the more beautiful the ultimate result. Your skin is that which quite literally accepts the paint (if you will) which you apply, and its surface smoothness and tone greatly effect how those cosmetics go on. If you are not quite getting the results you expected or that you once achieved, perhaps it is time to resurface the canvass.

Microdermabrasion is a fancy name for skin exfoliation that is performed by some mechanical means. At top MedSpas, microdermabrasion is performed with the state-of-the art DermaSweep™ MD skin revitalizing system. All rejuvenating cosmetic procedures at the best facilities, such as MD Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas, are approved as safe by the board-certified plastic and cosmetic surgeons who direct the facility. They will offer a personalized treatment plans specific to the needs of each individual client, which begins with a complimentary skin analysis.

DermaSweep™ MD is an innovative microdermabrasion system that combines a vacuum system, gentle bristle action and rejuvenating solutions that are tailored to meet the specific needs of the skin. The treated skin will not only look significantly better, but skin care products will be absorbed more effectively, by up to 50%, and makeup will go on more smoothly. The procedure is highly effective in improving enlarged pores, acne, dull skin, uneven skin texture, brown spots, surgical scars, stretch marks and damage from the sun.

Essentially, the DermaSweep™ MD procedure gently brushes and vacuums away dead skin cells while also deep cleaning and polishing the skin. A treatment takes only 30 minutes and in most cases is sufficient to achieve desired results. More serious skin conditions may require multiple treatments. This system is far superior to traditional crystal microdermabrasion in effectiveness and comfort. It is also one of the safest and low-risk rejuvenation procedures available today.

One word of caution about sun exposure or tanning beds after a microdermabrasion treatment—DON’T! You will have new, pink skin cells just emerged to the surface which will be very susceptible to burning and skin damage for at least a week after the procedure. Just like taking care of a new pair of shoes, once new and shiny, your face will need to be taken care of as well. It is like a fresh start for your face! Be certain to use a high SPF anti-oxidant enriched sunscreen for added protection.

The uses of the the DermaSweep™ MD system are not limited to the reduction of wrinkles in women of a certain age (like me). To the contrary, microdermabrasion is useful in the treatment of several different conditions which affect both old and young, and men and women alike. These conditions include:

Early aging lines

Sun-damaged skin / photo damage

Melasma (irregular brown patches)

Dull skin

Fine lines

Hyper-pigmentation (brown patches and age spots)

Acne scars

Enlarged pores

Uneven skin texture

Surgical scars

Stretch marks

As a longtime sufferer of cystic acne for most of my adult life, I find the prospect of DermaSweep™ MD very heartening. I remember as a child I had a beautiful elementary school young teacher (inside and out) who, unfortunately, was dreadfully pock-marked from her struggles with cystic acne. (Her name was Miss Whitehead, and as I now consider it, I shudder to think of the abuse she suffered as a teenager at school.) As I matured, I dreaded the prospect of my face gradually becoming as scarred as her own. Although I have long since been an adult and have come to terms with the fact that the scars and occasional zit are just part of being ‘me’, the prospect of freeing myself of my ‘crater face’ is one that is extremely tempting.

If you would like to learn more about microdermabrasion, DermaSweep™ MD, and other options for skin rejuvenation, a great source of information is at http://www.alwaysyouthful.com/, the website of Mark A. Schusterman, MD, FACS, a world-renowned plastic and cosmetic surgeon in Houston, Texas. He personally supervises and directs the full-service Bella Rosa MedSpa, (http://www.bellarosaclinic.com/) which is housed within his state-of-the-art facilities in the ‘medical center’ of downtown, the Museum District Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center.

DermaSweep™ MD is just one of many available treatments for revitalizing and improving your skin (your canvass). Perhaps in the future, I can return to Me and Bella to discuss these other options.

If we get Microdermabrasion then we can easily look more youthful. Such that it is one of the type of laser treatment, and also it is not so expensive.
